San Antonio band The Krayolas are releasing a new compilation, "Outlaw Garage Hits!" — a 14-track collection made up entirely of songs that have received heavy rotation on SiriusXM satellite radio and indie airplay over the past year. The lead single, "Summertime Boys," was recorded in a single session in early July 2026 and channels the spirit of the Beach Boys, Dwight Twilley, and The Who — growling guitars, funky bass, Wurlitzer electric piano, and sunny harmonies in an outlaw garage rock style.
The band is in the midst of a standout year: "Under One Roof" and "Exit Salida" both spent extended stretches in the Top 20 on SiriusXM Outlaw Country, airing on shows hosted by Elizabeth Cook, Shooter Jennings, Paula Nelson, Buddy Miller, and Jim Lauderdale. "Surf's Down" received added airplay following Brian Wilson's death, while "V-RROOM!" — the band's powerpop origin story — cracked the Top 10 on Stevie's Coolest Songs after being personally selected by Steven Van Zandt.
"Summertime Boys" was written and produced by Hector Saldana, who sings and plays rhythm guitar alongside his brother David (harmony vocals, drums, tambourine) and three of his sons — Jason (bass, harmony vocals), Nicky (lead guitar, harmony vocals), and Tony (low harmony vocals). Luvine Elias of the Royal Jesters plays Wurlitzer electric piano.
The band's story traces back to February 1977, when Hector and David's father brought his sons into a recording studio, launching The Krayolas' journey. The compilation also features three collaborations with Augie Meyers ("Little Fox," "Exit Salida," "We've Got a Secret"), honoring the musician who died in March 2026, along with cover versions of songs by Bob Dylan and Lesley Gore. Critic Dave Marsh once called The Krayolas the last of the original Chicano garage rockers — and their run continues.
