The Wrecking Crew Take 2 is the second three-disc companion compilation tied to Denny Tedesco's 2015 documentary The Wrecking Crew, about the group of Los Angeles session musicians who anonymously played on hundreds of hit records in the 1960s and '70s. Where the original 2015 soundtrack accompanied the film's theatrical release, Take 2 was an independent 2018 project funded through a PledgeMusic crowdfunding campaign.
Producer Denny Tedesco, son of Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco, described the goal as gathering hits that didn't make the first soundtrack while also stretching the timeline back into the 1950s and forward into the 1970s, to underline the breadth of the Crew's contribution to popular music. The first two discs collect recordings by a wide range of artists connected to the Crew, from Glen Campbell and The Mamas & the Papas to Cher and Elvis Presley. The third disc, titled "Crew Cuts," is dedicated to tracks the session players recorded and released under their own names — reportedly the first time these recordings had been credited to the musicians themselves in this kind of compilation.
The package includes a 14-page booklet with photos and session credits, and remains available directly through the official Wrecking Crew Film store.
