Argentine composer Ignacio Sandoval, working as YOTO, releases "Ciprés" on London's Kit Records — a collection that takes apart Argentinian folk music at its seams. Sandoval grew up at the meeting point of Latin American folk tradition and Buenos Aires' experimental arts scene, and both influences run through the record. Guitar sits at the center of his method: every track began as a brief, live-recorded improvisation, later dressed in splintering lines of marimba, xylophone, and unhurried percussion. The result is a set of private, almost intimate sketches — sonic sculptures built around the solitude and quiet of domestic life, with tracks like "Curtains," "Garbage Truck," and "Autumn Wind" pointing directly to those everyday images. Sandoval's earlier work, like that of fellow Argentinians Aylu and Vic Bang, ran on a fermented, overflowing maximalism — heard on the track "Levure." "Ciprés" moves the other way: weathered, time-worn forms surface here, dialogues that fork apart, disintegrate, and improbably knit back together, like an orchid's aerial roots slowly wrapping around an old iron fence. Sandoval's own voice appears just once, on "Viento De Otoño," casting a dappled, swaying shadow over the piece. The album speaks to listeners drawn to artists like Josephine Foster, The Residents, Lucrecia Dalt, Animal Collective, Tom Waits, and J.H. Guraj.
