Joinville-based singer, songwriter and producer Edwin de Paula releases his second full-length album, "Alfabeto" — 11 tracks blending folk and MPB around the idea that everything, ultimately, is a word: language becomes the tool through which humans describe both the material world and what exists only as possibility. Recorded, mixed and mastered entirely by Edwin himself in his home studio, the record is built on voice and guitar, layered with arrangements drawing on traditional cultures from at least four continents — from the Armenian orchestral opening of "100 Milhões" to the Saharan assouf ("desert blues") woven into "Shanidar," named after an Iraqi cave where Neanderthal burials were found. The album also includes reinterpretations of songs by Ney Matogrosso and the Argentine duo Perotá Chingó, while the track "Humana" features singer Ellen Mirú, whom Edwin met at the Abapowood festival in 2023 and later brought his home studio to record, completing a song he'd been carrying since their first encounter. Much of the material grew out of a thirty-day trip across the Andes in 2025 — through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile by van with friends — an experience that also produced the single "Purmamarca." "Alfabeto" follows Edwin's conceptual debut "TELECORSA" (2022), about urban life, but broadens the self-taught artist and schoolteacher's range of influences to span Andean, Saharan and Caucasian traditions alongside North American spiritual jazz. The album streams from the 31st, with a release show on August 1st at Livraria O Sebo bookshop in Joinville.
