Desert Island Treasures is a retrospective compilation album by the iconic American garage rock and psychedelic band Merrell & The Exiles (fronted by Merrell Fankhauser), released by Bomp! Records / Voxx Records in the 1980s (later reissued by CD labels).
Raw, crisp, and melodic mid-1960s folk rock with signature jingle-jangle guitar (in the vein of The Byrds and The Beau Brummels), surf motifs, and early psychedelic experiments.
The collection brings together rare singles, unreleased demos, and archival tracks from the band's 1964–1967 period.
Merrell Fankhauser was one of the key figures of the Californian underground of the 1960s. This collection documents the band's transition from pure California surf and garage folk rock to more sophisticated psychedelia (which later blossomed in his projects Fapardokly and Mu).
