Risveglio (2011) is the vibrant, extraordinary debut album by the Italian project Egonon (founded by multi-instrumentalist Fabio Calò).
The album goes far beyond the traditional symphonic RPI of the 1970s. It is a dynamic fusion of classic prog (with honeyed mellotron), heavy alternative rock/metal, jazz-rock, and ethnic Eastern motifs.
Along with a classic rock section (guitars, bass, drums) and prog keyboards (piano, mellotron), the record makes extensive use of Eastern strings and brass instruments (ud, sitar, sarangi, bansuri), as well as jazz brass (saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone) and cello.
The album's title translates as "Awakening." The compositions constantly change tempo and mood - from intimate acoustic and ethnic meditations to expressive, heavy alternative riffs and jazz improvisations.
