"Ragnarok" is the self-titled debut album by the New Zealand band Ragnarok, released in 1975 on the Revolution label.
A rare gem of New Zealand prog rock, the album is considered one of the most striking and influential releases of the classic New Zealand prog rock scene of the 1970s.
The album's soundscape is largely defined by the dense, dense use of Mellotron and early synthesizers, creating a cosmic ("mystical") atmosphere in the spirit of Pink Floyd, Curved Air, and Hawkwind.
The defining feature of the debut album was the expressive and powerful vocals of the band's only female member, Lee Maalfried. Shortly after the album's release, she left the band to pursue a solo career, making this the only album featuring her.
The band's and album's name, taken from Scandinavian mythology ("Ragnarok"), is reflected in the band's epic compositions (for example, the opening track "Fenris" is dedicated to the mythical wolf Fenrir).
