By the mid-1990s, Hazel O'Connor had moved away from the synth-pop and new wave sounds of the early 1980s toward a more organic, intimate, and emotional rock-folk format. The Berlin recording showcases her mature stage presence, powerful, dramatic vocals, and close connection with the audience.
