A new duo, Date of Birth, is emerging from the music scene in Bergen, bringing together experienced musicians Birgitta Alida Hole and Pablo Tellez. Their joint project sits at the intersection of nostalgia for past sounds and a distinctly contemporary pop sensibility. Their central source of inspiration is the orchestral pop and psychedelia of the 1960s and '70s, above all the aesthetic of The Beach Boys, with its layered arrangements and choral harmonies. Date of Birth carry that approach into the present: detailed, carefully constructed production meets polished vocal harmonies and songs built around strong, memorable melodies. At the same time, the duo isn't confined to a retro sound — their music can be placed alongside contemporary acts like Broadcast and Alvvays, both known for blending pop form with more experimental or atmospheric elements. Echoes of the classical tradition surface as well, with the influence of composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Claude Debussy audible in the harmonic and orchestral detail of their material. In this way, Date of Birth shape a sound that feels both recognizably rooted in the past and fresh and relevant to the present moment.
