Norwegian musician John Stenersen, known for Wardruna, Gåte, and Bergtatt, met Anders Odden — one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black/death metal scene and a member of Cadaver and Celtic Frost — at the Inferno Fest 2023 festival. That chance encounter led to a joint project called The Third Circle. The musicians chose to work exclusively with wooden, unconventional instruments, combining hurdy gurdy, keyed fiddle, and mora harp with analog synthesizers and upright bass. Percussionist Birger Mistereggen, who also plays jaw harp and sings, later joined the duo.
For Anders Odden, the project marks the result of a profound personal transformation: after nearly dying from illness in 2020, his outlook on music and life changed radically. Rather than pursuing a touring-driven, aggression-oriented metal career, he turned toward music that is meditative, therapeutic, and personal — music where the journey itself matters more than the destination.
The result of this search is the debut EP "I," consisting of three lengthy compositions the musicians prefer to call "movements" or "soundscapes" rather than songs. The material blends elements of traditional folk with minimalist, meditative textures, creating a calm, near-trance atmosphere likely to appeal to fans of projects like Wardruna. "I" is presented as the beginning of a larger creative journey, with the band also planning to perform live.
