Guitarist Jake Sanders, who began his career as a street performer in New York before playing with The Cangelosi Cards and Chicago's The Fat Babies, presents the album Estrellas de Radio — a two-year project recorded by Alex Hall at Reliable Records in Chicago with musicians from New York, Chicago, and Detroit. The record blends waltzes, rags, and blues with band arrangements of four previously unrecorded guitar solos, three of which were composed by guitar legend Nick Lucas and had existed only as sheet music for decades. Alongside the legacy of Lucas and his contemporary Eddie Lang, the album draws on a lesser-known line of early-20th-century Italian string virtuosos — Giovanni Gioviale and Giovanni Vicari — whose mandolin compositions Sanders reworked for a guitar-based ensemble. Three tracks feature handcrafted Fraulini Guitars built by luthier Todd Cambio. The album's sole original composition, "The Sunset Blues," draws on traditional blues form while carving out a sound entirely its own. Beyond his studio work, Sanders is known for his collaborations with Lindy hop champion Naomi Uyama and pianist Paul Asaro, along with performances at the Chicago Jazz Festival and venues worldwide, including a residency at Mexico City's Cracovia 32.
