Grace Cummings - FAKE (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Grace Cummings

Singer Cummings releases "FAKE," the third single from the album Bloodhorse!, following "I'm Not Crazy" and "My God." It's a ballad for voice, strings, and piano in which the artist confronts themes of power, abuse, and escape — recurring motifs across the whole record.

According to Cummings, the song's starting point is the phrase "good girl," which she describes as a form of abuse in itself: an internalized role a woman performs her whole life even while recognizing it as a tool of control. That revulsion breaks through the song's very structure — her voice catches and chokes on the first syllable. The second half of the track shifts to the remorse of the other person involved in that dynamic.

Cummings admits that writing, performing, and "confessing" this song was deeply difficult emotionally, while stressing that the experience it describes is painfully ordinary for a great many women. She describes the track's musical arc as a visceral, bodily journey: beginning somewhere "up in the clouds," then a sudden drag underwater, emerging through a dark tunnel, falling through something like a rabbit hole or a vortex — flying, drowning, and finally running.
