Twin sisters Paulette and Claudette Patterson began their careers as members of the British group Prediction, a Soul and Lover's Rock outfit active in the early 1980s. In 1985 they broke off to form the duo Dazzle, signing to Jam Today Records — a label founded by Andy Sojka, a former member of Atmosfear and the founder of the influential Elite Records, the label that first brought Level 42 to the world. Labelmates on Jam Today included Keni Stevens and the group Projection.
The breakthrough came in 1989 with the release of the debut album Soul Sisters and its single "Dazzle You," which became a notable hit on the UK soul scene. The record's success took the duo onto club stages across the country and onto regional radio, and saw them sharing bills with artists such as Omar and Gwen Guthrie. Buoyed by this success, Jam Today funded a second album, On Second Thoughts, released in 1991 as the duo's final work as Dazzle.
Paulette Patterson passed away on June 15, 2007, at the age of 44, just days after her birthday. Her voice and songwriting remain part of the legacy Dazzle left in British soul music history.
