Chicago DJ and promoter Al Benson launched two record labels in 1954 — Parrot and Blue Lake Records — with the latter operating as a subsidiary of the former. Blue Lake Records carved out a niche for a more eclectic catalog, releasing recordings in blues, doo-wop, jazz, and gospel, reflecting both the founder's broad musical taste and the diversity of Chicago's African American music scene in the mid-1950s. The label had a short run, folding by mid-1956. A portion of its master tapes was later acquired by the larger and more influential Chicago label Chess Records, helping preserve and reissue part of its legacy. This tracklist compiles all recordings released by Blue Lake Records during its Chicago-era existence.
