Nashville guitarist and songwriter Kevin Coleman releases his new album KC Blues, the follow-up to his 2024 record Imaginary Conversations, issued jointly by Centripetal Force and Ramble Records in a 200-copy vinyl pressing alongside a digital release, with preorders opening June 15 and the album arriving July 17. Recording took two years and began as Coleman's response to the political instability of 2024, drawing parallels between interwar Europe and contemporary America, but the material grew more personal over time, carrying feelings of confusion, exhaustion, and unease without offering direct commentary. The album was recorded outside traditional studios, in bedrooms and basements around Nashville, and Coleman deliberately kept traces of technical mishaps and broken equipment in the recordings to preserve their authenticity. Unlike its tightly arranged predecessor, KC Blues leans into improvisation and collaboration: Trevor Nikrant (Styrofoam Winos, MJ Lenderman) played a central role in the studio, and several tracks emerged from live sessions with Tommy Stangroom and J.W. Bird. At the same time, the record stays rooted in country blues and archival 1920s–30s folk tradition, blending it with the freer improvisational style Coleman has developed through years of live performance. The result is a record where structure and spontaneity balance each other, as Coleman moves toward a more open, collaborative sound.
