International recording artist Aliya has released her new single "Return," a contemplative track about life, death, and the transition between them, made in collaboration with Irish musician Liam Ó Maonlaí. The song was born during Aliya's journey through Peru's Sacred Valley: sitting outside her casita one starlit night, surrounded by the Apus — mountain spirits revered in Andean cosmology — she experienced a moment of deep stillness in which she felt simultaneously grounded in her body and the Earth, and stretched beyond this lifetime. When the urge to sing arrived, she pressed record, and the song emerged whole in a single take — both a message received from the mountains and stars, and a personal prayer that the music might outlive its creators.
The collaboration with Liam Ó Maonlaí came about almost by chance: the track was the first Aliya worked on with producer Ajeet during her first trip to Ireland, where Liam happened to be visiting. An hour before her flight, they played him the track, and he spontaneously recorded his part — a contribution Aliya credits with pulling the whole song together and bringing the sound of the Irish language into it. Known for his emotive voice and deep roots in traditional Irish music, his part, in her words, added authenticity and became a kind of cultural bridge.
Beyond the studio, Aliya recalls shared meals, swimming in rivers and the sea, and long conversations with Liam as the most memorable parts of the collaboration, noting his natural gift for poetry and his reverence for his native language and land. She says that surrender to natural and divine law underlies much of her music and her life as a whole. She hopes "Return" inspires listeners toward a deeper connection with nature, themselves, and life, and plans to keep traveling to mountains and rivers around the world, listening to them and writing new music.
