Smiling at Grief… Revisited (40th Anniversary Edition) is a special release by the British neo-progressive rock band Twelfth Night, released in 2022 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their landmark 1982 demo.
The original cassette album Smiling at Grief was recorded in late 1981 and released in 1982. It was the band's first recording with new vocalist and lyricist Jeff Mann. The album was intended as a high-quality demo to attract labels, but quickly gained cult status among progressive rock fans.
In 2022, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this work, the musicians of Twelfth Night embarked on an ambitious experiment. They presented the original multitracks (the original recordings) to their friends, colleagues, and prominent figures in the contemporary prog scene, inviting them to reinterpret the material.
