Los Angeles band The Blood Arm, formed in 2002 by singer Nathaniel Fregoso, guitarist Zebastian Carlisle, keyboardist Dyan Valdés, and drummer Zachary Amos, is making its debut album Bomb Romantics available on streaming services for the first time in over twenty years, with the digital release landing on 17th July 2026.
The album was recorded over a single weekend in a garage studio and self-released in 2004 in a limited physical run of 1,000 copies, which quickly sold out and became rare collector's items; it was never reissued until now. That lo-fi, live-energy record was what first brought the band notice outside the US. Four more albums followed after they were signed, before the group went on hiatus in 2017. Having now regained the rights to their early catalogue, they've had the material fully remastered for this wider release.
The album's focus track, World Class Traveler, is built on a twitchy beat, jagged guitars, and an indie sleaze aesthetic close in spirit to LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture. According to Nathaniel Fregoso, the lyrics grew out of his time working a dull post-production job in Koreatown, Los Angeles, while dreaming of escaping into life as a touring musician; though not written as a deliberate anti-capitalist statement, the song became one, and the band's nightly rehearsals together served as an outlet from the grind of day jobs.
The Blood Arm built a reputation as a formidable live act: Entertainment Weekly named them 'Best Live Act' at SXSW in 2005, they were nominated for an LA Weekly Music Award, played an after-show for Franz Ferdinand (who went on to call them their favourite band), and performed at festivals including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds. The members now all live in Berlin, where they continue making music in various projects. To mark the reissue, the band will play a show on 30th September 2026 at Berlin's Schokoladen, the same venue where they played their last headline show in 2016 before going on hiatus.
