"Banks of Eden" (2012) is the eleventh studio album by Swedish symphonic progressive rock giants The Flower Kings.
This release became a landmark event for the prog community, marking the band's triumphant return after a five-year hiatus. Recorded in a traditional analog style, the album restored the band's classic, warm, and majestic sound.
To record "Banks of Eden," frontman Roine Stolt consciously abandoned sterile digital methods. The musicians locked themselves in Sweden's Varispeed Studios, armed with vintage equipment: tube amplifiers, vintage analog synthesizers (including a Mellotron and a Hammond organ), and tape recorders. The result was a living, breathing sound with incredibly deep dynamics.
The album also introduced a new member to the public: the incredibly technical German drummer Felix Lermann, whose energetic playing gave the Flower Kings' music a new impetus.
