Disc one of this collection originally appeared on Charly Records in 1987 as a 2LP and as [a] double play cassette set. It was released within six months of Lee Dorsey's death on December 1st 1986 and was produced for reissue by Charly's Cliff White who researched, compiled, and annotated the set...Disc two is a selection of Lee's greatest recordings featuring all of his chart hits both in the USA and the UK and one side of all his singles excepting those featured on disc one.

...[in his later career, his legacy was secured enough] to gain Lee support slots on tours by the likes of James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, and even The Clash, whose 1980 outing was his last major supporting role. Throughout this period his hits were revived and sampled by numerous artists including Devo, The Judds, John Lennon and Lou Donaldson. "Get Out My Life Woman" was his most sampled song, featuring on Beck's "Where it's At", Fat Joe's "Flow Joe", De La Soul's "Eye Know" and other raps by Biz Markie, Grand Puba, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan and many others. "Give It Up" and "A Lover Was Born" and "Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky From Now On" also attracted several samples. Sadly, Lee Dorsey did not live to see much of his success in the hip-hop world, passing away on December 1st 1986 at his home in New Orleans from emphysema. His music is still as vibrant and exciting decades after his death as it was in his heyday.
