"Hero" is the debut studio album by Scottish-born Australian pop and disco singer John Paul Young. The record was released in November 1975 on the prestigious Australian label Albert Productions.

This album marked the beginning of the musician's successful solo career and his long-standing collaboration with the legendary production and songwriting duo of George Young and Harry Vanda (Vanda & Young), former members of the rock band The Easybeats.

The album's sound reflects the transitional era of the mid-1970s: dense, guitar-driven Australian pop-rock with elements of glam, already beginning to flirt with the danceable rhythms of emerging disco.

Before the release of this album, John Paul Young was known as a theater actor (he played the role of Judas in the Australian production of the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar") and the lead singer of the rock band Elm Tree. Producers Vanda and Young saw his potential as a big pop star and wrote almost all the material for him.
