Romantic is an instrumental album of light orchestral music by the Italian composer, arranger, and conductor Francesco Anselmo, released in 1972 on the Italian label Cinevox Records (as part of the renowned "Sonorizzazione" series).
Like many other releases by maestro Anselmo, this disc was created at the intersection of commercial pop and library music, intended for use on radio, television, and film as a relaxing or romantic backdrop.
The album's sound, fully justifying its name, "Romantic," is woven from gentle, pastoral, and elegiac melodies. Anselmo relies on lush, flowing string arrangements, soft passages on acoustic piano, delicate brass (flutes, oboe) and a light, barely noticeable rhythm section with elements of bossa nova and European pop jazz of the late 60s and 70s.
