The album is a large-scale musical and ethnographic exploration of the artistic heritage of Latin American indigenous peoples, created within the Yaki Kandru project. Founded in Colombia in 1970 to support indigenous rights movements, the project later operated as a France-based duo of Sylvie Blasco and Jorge López Palacio from 1994 to 2018. The release is built upon a rich vocal and instrumental repertoire of numerous Amerindian communities spanning Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, Guyana, Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil.
The sonic palette of the album is unique: the musicians utilize rare, authentic instruments, including ritual flutes, maracas, a bow-and-gourd instrument, and fotutos (Orinoco trumpets reconstructed from 18th-century historical documents). The ethnographic depth is further enhanced by the inclusion of an archival 1975 field recording. French composer Thierry Pécou contributed to the closing track, blending indigenous folk music with modern textures via the Fender Rhodes electric piano. The album's production spanned over twenty years, across three studio sessions (1997, 2009, and 2018) in Switzerland and France. The conceptual framework is completed by liner notes featuring a cultural essay and a quote by philosopher Édouard Glissant, linking the project to the ideas of cultural diversity.
