The renowned Canadian cellist, composer, and environmental activist Rebecca Foon (known for her work with Saltland and Esmerine) has announced the release of her solo album titled Black Butterflies, scheduled for October 2025 via the independent label Envision Records. This work marks a stylistic shift in the artist's discography towards dream pop while maintaining her neoclassical foundations. The material was recorded in the intimate setting of a barn studio in the Laurentians, co-produced alongside longtime collaborator Jace Lasek. Musically, the album is a multilayered tapestry blending classical strings (played by Foon on cello and her sister Aliayta Foon-Dancoes on violin) with piano, minimalist electronic beats, and haunting vocals.
