"A Tale" is the fifth full-length studio album by the Finnish musical collective Onségen Ensemble, released on June 26, 2026, via the Norwegian label Karisma Records.
Based in northern Finland, Onségen Ensemble is unique in its structure: it has no fixed lineup. It is a living musical organism with a permanent core and a constantly rotating cast of guest musicians. Space, silence, and the harsh northern landscapes have always been integral to their sound, but on "A Tale," their music takes on an even deeper, more ethereal, and more mythical quality.
The album sounds like the soundtrack to an imaginary film or a post-apocalyptic parable told around a campfire. The musical palette is incredibly rich, featuring a variety of instruments: from classical guitars and drums to violin, flute, saxophone, harmonica, and trumpet. The hypnotic, almost ritualistic vocals of new member Vilma Pesola played a huge role in the updated sound.
