MIKE's 10K imprint continues the trans-Atlantic conversation with the latest solo album from UK rapper Jadasea, featuring guest appearances from John Glacier, duentita, Anysia Kym and MIKE.
Following an acclaimed run of collaborations with MIKE (on 2024'a 'Old Earth' EP), Anysia Kim (on 2023's 'Pressure Sensitive') and Brooklyn-based producer Laron (on 'The Corner: Vol. 1'), Jadasea hones in on a suitably brittle sound on 'Holly Grove', rapping over a sequence of shortform instrumentals led by detuned synths and paper-thin trap beats. It's engaging gear, but comes into its own when Jadasea provides room for his guests: the throwback 'Intrinsick' is uses Kym's chorus perfectly, while John Glacier wakes up 'Lemon Cherry' with her deadpan reflections. On 'Entrance', duendita hands Jadasea the hook he's been missing, and on 'Collateral' MIKE's charisma gives the album a much-needed shot of adrenaline.
