"Camera Obscura Volume II" (2026) is the second and final installment in a large-scale duology by the German progressive project Legacy Pilots, led by Frank Us. The album was released simultaneously with Volume I in May 2026.
While the first part of the duology focused on lighter, song-based, and melodic structures, "Volume II" represents the darker side of the concept. It is a much darker, more eccentric, and experimental record, where Frank Us gives free rein to complex instrumental challenges.
Conceptually, "Volume II" explores the hidden, shadowy sides of human perception, illusions, and distortions of reality (as underscored by the very name of the camera obscura, a device that flips images upside down).
Unlike the first part, where the vocals led the narrative, “Volume II” contains much more instrumental zones, extended improvisations, counterpoints and sharp transitions from melancholic ambient to aggressive prog-onrush.
