On the new album Baur Bentur, released via Black Truffle, Dewa Alit and his ensemble Gamelan Salukat merge traditional Balinese music with Western piano, performed by Sri Hanuraga. Recorded between 2024 and 2025, the release explores the intercultural fusion of Eastern and Western elements, complex polyrhythms, and the simultaneous application of three distinct tuning systems. This work serves as a counterbalance to the commercialization of Balinese art, representing a radical acoustic experiment at the intersection of traditional gamelan, contemporary classical, and jazz music.
