"SOOP #2 (Songs Of Other People)" is a studio album by Australian power pop musician, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Michael Carpenter, released on November 1, 2006, on his independent label Big Radio Records (catalog number RR20063).
This is the second installment of his acclaimed archival cover cycle "S.O.O.P.", begun in 2001.
While in the first volume of "SOOP," Carpenter paid tribute to the leading figures of world pop-rock music (The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Tom Petty), in "SOOP #2," he chose a completely different and more profound concept.
This album is entirely dedicated to Carpenter's contemporaries—his friends, colleagues in the independent power pop scene, and underground songwriters. Michael selected little-known but compositionally impeccable songs from artists he shared the stage with, interacted with, or sincerely admired in the early 2000s. Carpenter, as usual, recorded all the tracks almost single-handedly at his Sydney studio, Love Hz Studios, serving as producer, engineer, and performer of most of the instrumental parts.
"SOOP #2" cemented Michael Carpenter's status as one of the foremost enthusiasts and archivists of the power pop genre. The album not only delighted fans of his solo work but also fulfilled an important educational mission, introducing listeners to amazing yet underrated songwriters from around the world.
