Above the Street is the deeply introspective debut solo album from Jordan Smart, best known for his work with Mammal Hands, Vega Trails and Sunda Arc. Recorded alone in an attic studio in Norwich during the months before the birth of his first child, the album captures a dreamlike state between waking and sleeping, unfolding through quiet woodwind improvisations, ambient textures and field recordings. Much of the music was recorded live to fragile tape machines, giving it a warm, hazy intimacy, while a recurring dream image -- "The Blue Palace" -- threads through the record as a symbol of creative escape and reflection. Released via a new independent label founded by Smart and his bandmates in Mammal Hands as a home for more personal and exploratory projects, Above the Street offers a calm, meditative listening experience shaped by solitude, transition and inward exploration.
