Piero Umiliani - Synthi Time (1971)

"Synthi Time" is a landmark studio album by Italian composer Piero Umiliani, released in October 1971 on his own label, Omicron (catalog number LPS 0020). This record is a striking example of early electronic and library music. In this work, the maestro temporarily departed from his usual jazz and orchestral arrangements to fully explore the sonic possibilities of analog synthesizers (in particular, the iconic EMS VCS 3 and Moog instruments).
The release's sound ranges from futuristic downtempo to melancholic, toy-like, and experimental sketches. Umiliani's synthesizer recordings were interspersed with occasional touches of spinet (a type of harpsichord) and Hammond organ.

This album is considered one of Umiliani's most avant-garde and underrated works. It anticipated the development of European minimalist electronica (including representatives of the German Krautrock scene, such as Moebius and Roedelius). Original copies of the 1971 record are now collector's items, but the album has been reissued on vinyl and CD numerous times by modern labels (such as Schema Records) for retrofuturism enthusiasts.
