Alcatraz is the eighth studio album by the Californian pop-punk band The Mr. T Experience, marking a significant stylistic shift in their work.
In contrast to their earlier, more uptempo releases, this album took a more pop-oriented direction. The music shifted toward power pop and indie rock with clean guitars.
For the first time, the band actively infused their punk sound with a horn section, acoustic guitars, and classical keyboards (Farfisa and Hammond B-3 organs).
Music critics noted its clear inspiration from the British pop wave of the 1960s, as well as the atmosphere of the early works of Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson.
This is the band's final album, recorded by the band's "golden" lineup of the late 1990s, featuring bassist Joel Reeder. He left the band after the release.
