The album "El Swing Boogaloo" is a milestone in the history of Peruvian tropical music of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The record was created as a Peruvian response to the wave of Colombian cumbia and New York boogaloo sweeping South America. The musicians combined classical Cuban music with contemporary urban trends.
In 1969, percussionist Domingo Guzmán Villanueva was commissioned by the Peruvian label MAG to assemble a group to revive Cuban musical traditions.
