Mario Massa, Mixa Fortuna, John Holmström - The Mouth (2026) [Hi-Res]
The Mouth is a six-track album by the Italian-Swedish trio of trumpeter and electronics artist Mario Massa, voice performer and songwriter Mixa Fortuna, and Swedish jazz musician John Holmström, released in 2026 on the independent imprint SMF — Stereonoise Music Factory. The label, founded in 2004 by multi-instrumentalist Carlo Porrà, occupies a singular niche in Italian experimental music, bridging jazztronic, industrial, and avant-garde electronica.
The album's title frames the body as a site of utterance: the mouth as the origin of breath, voice, and language. Its six pieces — "Wrinkles," "A Moment," "Nettle," "Bubbles," "Foam," and "Shapes Of Our Light" — trace the ephemeral and the tactile, offering sound-images of surfaces dissolving into light. The trio's working method, refined across previous collaborations on SUPRANU Records and SMF, rests on open improvisation: Massa's trumpet carves points of tension without opposition; Fortuna's overtone-rich, ritually inflected voice traces existential figures through the texture; Holmström contributes structural restraint and Nordic clarity. The result is a spare, contemplative record at the intersection of avant-garde jazz, experimental vocal art, and electroacoustic sound.
