Rhapsodie créole (2026) is the second solo album by Réunionnaise pianist and composer Fanny PRIE, a natural continuation of her debut project Prélude au maloya. The album deepens her ongoing exploration of a musical idiom where classical piano merges with the pulse of maloya. Unfolding between two landscapes of Réunion — the light of the sugarcane fields and the intimacy of a Creole home at dusk — the record places the rhythms of the roulèr and the kayamb alongside the piano in a free-form rhapsody where roots, memory, and poetry converge.
A gold-medal graduate of the Réunion Conservatoire turned educator, Fanny PRIE draws on the pioneering tradition of Luc Donat's Séga Mozart to craft an original, largely instrumental repertoire that bridges European classical technique with the traditional sounds of séga and maloya. Among the album's centrepieces is the Hymne des Mascareignes — the official anthem she composed and performed for the 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games — a séga built on ternary rhythms shared across Réunion, Mauritius, and Madagascar. Released independently under her own name, Rhapsodie créole affirms Fanny PRIE's singular place at the intersection of Creole heritage and classical composition.
