Vaiano's Paisanos - Vaiano's Paisanos (2026) [Hi-Res]

Vaiano's Paisanos - Vaiano's Paisanos (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Vaiano's Paisanos

Vaiano's Paisanos is an American string band whose repertoire draws on immigrant music recorded in New York City during the 1920s and 1930s. Founder and fiddler Rachel Meirs first discovered these recordings while working at the Jalopy Theatre. The band's material spans Cape Verdean, Italian-American, and Caribbean-Venezuelan traditions, sourced from recordings by Abrew's Portuguese Instrumental Trio, Johnny Perry's trio, Orchestra di Notias, the Fazio-Romani duo, mandolinist Giovanni Vicari, and pianist-composer Lionel Belasco. The project stands as a tribute to the immigrant musicians who originally created this music and to the collectors of vintage 78 rpm records who preserved and disseminated it for future generations.
