The origins of the Genoese band Garybaldi date back to 1965, the year in which guitarist Pier Niccolò "Bambi" Fossati, together with Maurizio Cassinelli (drums), Angelo Traverso (bass) and Marco Zoccheddu (guitar), founded the Gleemen, authors of a self-titled LP released in 1970: an excellent album, still linked to certain 1960s sounds, but in which Bambi Fossati's Hendrixian style began to make itself heard. In 1971 the band changed its name to Garybaldi and the following year released the legendary "Nuda," an album in which the typical sounds of progressive rock were mixed with Fossati's 'guitarism,' resulting in a unique and very important work in the Italian prog-rock scene. 1973 saw the release of "Astrolabe," a very special album composed of two long tracks, one on each side, where ample space is left for improvisations. Another unique record, with which closes the first phase of the band's history, which will continue its activity in alternating phases to the present day.
