The album is the culmination of Hisham Mayet's 2006 ethnographic expedition through the Western Sahara and Mauritania. Inspired by a chance radio broadcast of Group Doueh, Mayet documented a unique cross-section of the region's Hassānīya musical culture. The compilation illustrates the evolution of Sahrawi music from traditional acoustic poetry to modern electric interpretations characterized by heavy psychedelic effects. The recordings feature a mix of intimate home sessions and immersive field recordings from Nouakchott’s bustling markets, constructing a complex sonic portrait of regional identity and artistic transformation.
