Rockers Hi-Fi - Original Lo-Fi (2026)

Original Lo-Fi traces its origins to the mid-1990s, a transitional period for Rockers Hi-Fi spent between record deals and outside the glare of the industry. Initially conceived under the working title Music Is Immortal, the project began as a loosely assembled archive of unreleased material, obscure remixes, and studio experiments created during this creatively fertile but uncertain chapter.
Having recently relocated from Glyn “Bigga” Bush’s front-room setup, the group established a temporary studio in a storeroom above Ladbrooke’s piano shop in Birmingham. Working with limited resources, the production environment was defined by necessity and ingenuity: Casio samplers, a Korg Mini-700, a Roland TB-303, basic delay units, a distinctive Great British spring reverb, and their dependable Atari 1040 computer formed the backbone of the studio.

At the same time, the UK music landscape was rapidly evolving. DJ Dick regularly arrived with carefully curated selections from Swordfish Records and the Diskery, bringing fresh influences into the sessions. Additional inspiration emerged from the discovery of a box of anonymous reggae 7-inch singles—many with their labels scratched off to protect the identity of tunes once played by a formidable local selector—further embedding dub culture into the project’s DNA.

Now, thirty years later, this long-hidden body of work has been carefully remastered, re-sequenced, and expanded with material from Rockers Hi-Fi’s original ambient dub era. Seminal tracks such as “Sexy Selector” and “DeMat DubRim” sit alongside recordings released under the group’s Moody White alias, while early dub-house standouts “Clint Eastwood Is Tuffer Than Lee Van Cleef” and “Hash Recall” complete a definitive snapshot of Rockers Hi-Fi at their most exploratory.

Original Lo-Fi, out March 11, 2026 via !K7 Records stands as both a historical document and a reaffirmation of the group’s enduring influence on UK electronic and dub-informed music.
