Here's something you don't see every week: a compilation of fresh productions, curated by Ricardo Villalobos, incorporating elements from two recent Sun Ra related albums (his surviving Arkestra's 'Living Sky' and the spoken word collection 'When Angels Speak'). Alongside Villalobos, who contributes two minimal techno meets-out-there-tech-jazz takes on 'I Have Forgotten', we get multiple contributions from Detroit legends Underground Resistance (the woozy tech-house of 'I Have Forgotten' and the more propulsive, Motor City techno jazz of 'The Other Darkness'), Chez Damier (the organ-rich tribal deep house bounce of 'The Last Realm' and the pitched-down jazz house of 'The Three Dimensions of Air') and D&B royalty Calibre (drum & bass and ambient passes on 'Chopin'). Throw in a killer ambient jazz interpretation of 'Message To Black Youth' from A Guy Called Gerald and you have an essential collection.
