Machete Mágico is the third album by Mexico City-based quartet Los Champetos de Jújù, recorded on the Baja California coast. The band brings together musicians from Togo, New Zealand, El Salvador, and Mexico. The record fuses Afro-Latin rhythms — Togolese sogó, Garifuna punta, cumbia, and Congolese soukous — with psychedelic and experimental textures. Each of the five compositions draws on a distinct rhythmic tradition, guiding the listener from visceral dancefloor energy toward the disorienting edges of altered consciousness.
