OHyung - IOWA (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: OHyung

OHYUNG’s album Iowa (by Lia Ouyang Rusli) is a profoundly atmospheric and intimate exploration of the artist's eleven-month stay in rural Iowa following a move from Brooklyn. Drawing thematic parallels to Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, the record features a stripped-down, self-produced aesthetic characterized by late-night gloom and "tinnitus quiet." Musically, the project blends ambient textures, surreptitious field recordings, and mangled chorales to mirror both the vastness of the Midwestern landscape and the socio-political anxieties of contemporary America. Through lo-fi tape aesthetics and subterranean bass swells, OHYUNG documents a period of personal gender transition and community building within a rectilinear state. The album concludes with a poignant tribute to the late Chris Wiersema, celebrating human connection amidst the bleak winter silence of the plains.
