Easter Monkeys - Splendor of Sorrow (2023)

Easter Monkeys - Splendor of Sorrow (2023)

BAND/ARTIST: Easter Monkeys

Formed in 1981 by veterans of the Cleveland punk scene, Easter Monkeys developed a distinctive style blending dark humor, hypnotic rhythms, and subversive aesthetics. Their seminal work, "Splendor of Sorrow," recorded in 1983, remained a cult artifact that saw formal release only years later. Characterized by prominent saxophone lines and heavy bass grooves, the band's sound prefigured the evolution of experimental punk and noise rock. The 2009 reissue restores the original mixes and incorporates rare tracks like "Cheap Heroin," highlighting the group's historical significance in challenging the cultural conservatism of the 1980s.
