D. Ellsworth - Field Notes: Solo Piano Vol. 01 (2026) Hi-Res

Inspired by Jon Brion, “bloom” is a tender, cinematic piece built around a plaintive melody that swells with emotion and improvisation as it unfolds. Meant to evoke the beauty and uncertainty of growth, “bloom” culminates in a fully improvised section that embraces the unknown, reminding us that change itself can be a beautiful act.

This solo piano album is a brand new adventure for me. My education background is in piano - both classical and jazz - and writing original instrumental music has always been in the back of my mind as something I’ve wanted to do. Of course I play piano all the time on pop songs that I write, on other people’s albums, for TV shows and ads…the list goes on. But I’ve never set aside the time to properly write and record solo piano music for myself. The process has been freeing. It’s opened my mind to new career opportunities I want to explore. I’m a big believer in throwing yourself into something new if you feel inspired to do it. It’s not always easy, but in my experience it almost always leads somewhere new.

Field Notes: Solo Piano Vol. 01 is comprised of 10 thoughtfully composed instrumental piano pieces with moments of improvisation. It nods to my classical roots, my jazz roots, and my background as an indie pop/rock songwriter. It’s melodic, cinematic, and free. Inspired by artists like Chilly Gonzales, Nils Frahm, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Keith Jarrett, the music draws from the natural world and the quiet beauty of observation.
