The Uzbek label Maqom Soul has launched its operations with a vinyl reissue of a rare 1978 album by the Uyghur ensemble Yashlik. Founded in 1974 in Almaty under the direction of Murat Akhmadiev, the group integrated national folklore with jazz, psychedelic rock, and Soviet estrada. This recording is distinguished by the simultaneous use of modern synthesizers, electric guitars, and traditional instruments, representing a strategic effort to preserve ethnic identity through contemporary sound during the Soviet era. The reissue offers a remastered version of an album previously restricted to the USSR, framing the work as a vital piece of living art rather than a mere nostalgic artifact.
