If in Descesis (2023) Tori's compositions seemed to spring from the Earth, in sand and voice (2025, Guano) they arrive through the air. The second and most recent studio work of the singer-songwriter from Sergipe, the ten-track record reveals itself in small doses, like emotional particles blown by the wind. Songs that, even atmospheric and contemplative, express movement, expanding the artist's field of action.

Part of this result comes from the very process of composing the disc. Now based in Rio de Janeiro and circulating through different cities to perform, Tori made these trips and the relationships built over the years the stimulus for the elaboration of the tracks. They are songs that start from the experiences lived by the singer herself, but grow in the lyrical and instrumental encounters that complement the work.

Not coincidentally, almost half of the songs open up to the arrival of different voices. The title song of the album itself has the complement of Nina Maia, reinforcing the density of the song. Already in the sound of who sleeps well, it is Guilherme Lirio who parades lightly through the composition. Who also gives the faces is Francisca Barreto, in discreet peace, owner of the strings that subtly invade the minimalist base track.

Nothing to prepare the listener for repose. Complete by the participation of Bernardo Bauer, the music not only enchants by the presence of the artist from Minas Gerais, but grows in rhythmic fluidity, layers of guitars and winds that delicately invade the song. Of course, this does not interfere with the delivery of tracks in which Tori's voice parades alone, as in Ilha Húmida, reinforcing the intimate character that guides the composer.

However, the further one moves away from this result and, consequently, from the themes and structures tested in Descent, the more Tori's music rises and surprises the listener. From the arid psychedelia that invades fretwork, passing through the noisy sound of Harmony is of the world, there are moments in which the artist plays with the possibilities in the studio, directing that follows until the rhythmic growth of the ultimate Cartographies.

Even if sand and voice seems less cohesive than Descese, the work stands out for the originality with which Tori rearranges the repertoire. The very transition of the album, which starts from a minimalist opening to a full-bodied closure, highlights the effort of the artist and her production partner, musician Domenico Lancellotti, to tread new paths. It is like a subtle process of transformation, proposal that preserves a series of elements originally tested in the previous record, but at no time repeats itself.
