It’s not always obvious, but the birds of New York City have their own nightlife. Many species of nocturnal birds can be found here, either as residents or visitors. In addition, most songbirds migrate at night; some of these have unique nocturnal vocal behavior as well. These songs are largely based on the birds’ voices, especially those more often heard than seen; a few portray their habitat or behavior instead.
