Buh Records has released Cergio Prudencio – Anthology 2: Works for the Experimental Orchestra of Native Instruments, a double album dedicated to the work of Bolivian composer Cergio Prudencio and the Experimental Orchestra of Native Instruments (OEIN), a project he co-founded and now directs as emeritus director since 1980. The OEIN is unique in its approach, integrating traditional instruments and philosophical principles of Aymara music (such as arca-ira alternation and the communal energy of wakiña) into a contemporary compositional process. The album, praised by the international press as "one of the most radical contemporary-music endeavors to emerge from Latin America," features Prudencio's compositions written between 1989 and 2014. These works include Cantos crepusculares (1999) for the Donaueschingen Festival, Cantos ofertorios (2008), which employs multiphonics and references yatiri rituals, Sawuta saltanakani (2003), exploring the multifonic interiority of the siku, as well as Cantos de piedra (1989), an homage to Tiahuanaku culture, and Lamento (2014) from a film score. The release, which features the composer’s own selection, represents a decisive contribution to contemporary Latin American musical creation.
