Berlin-based composer and sound artist Bridget Ferrill has released a new full-length album, "Domschatzjammer," on the Subtext label, which is a personal and raw fusion of minimalism and Celtic folk. Ferrill, a well-known figure on Berlin's experimental scene, composed this album entirely from original scores for the first time, demonstrating her compositional process: a combination of restrained, intricate writing with noisy, raw processes to add emotional depth. The recording features viola da gamba player Liam Byrne, Peder Simonsen on microtonal tuba, and Lisa Murray on organ, while Ferrill herself plays harp and electronics. The album continues her instrumental explorations begun in her previous release, "Only," and includes characteristic compositions such as "What was the World to me," where Byrne's strings clash with Ferrill's "orchestra" of distortions, and the experimental finale "how i think about what it is," where the electric harp is used to create impossible, jerky patterns, resulting in "music that resists smoothness," according to the press release.
