The French label Q-Sounds Recording has released the self-titled debut album by singer Soma Camara, a musician with West African roots. The eight-track album, produced by Ludovic Bors (aka Funk Crime, Norman Smuggler), is an exclusive vinyl-only release. Diverging from the 60s and 70s soul music the Q-Sounds Recording label is known for, this album is a deeply introspective and personal work. It blends influences from Lo-Fi Blues, Afrofunk, and the culture of the West African Soninke people, reflected in the ten tracks sung in Camara's mother tongue. The record combines soul, blues, and hip-hop (featuring rappers Mo'V and Diego). Soma Camara sings about personal vulnerability, transforming his daily experiences in Seine-Saint-Denis into universal themes. Bors' fully analog production lends the album a raw, minimalist, and authentic sound, reflecting a dark yet lively blend of life in the urban French ghetto and Mauritania.
